Sir Waiter run into debt that's why he had to lease Kellynch Hall to the Crofts. Sir Walter was a widower and he had 3 daughters Elizabeth, Mary and Anne. Mrs. Clay was the closest friend to the girl's mother that's why after her death Mrs. Clay was like a mother for them. When Anne was 19 years old Frederick Wentworth proposed marriage to her, but she refused because of persuasion. He wasn't rich and he hadn't good heritage. But after 8 years he returned to Kellynch Hall with the Crofts family.
